Huntdown plays like a 2D side scrolling shooter. It’s kinda hard to tell around the explosions, screams, and gunfire. You can’t switch bounty hunters mid-game, so for the purpose of this Huntdown review, I stuck it out as the cool robot. Mow Man is an awesome skull-faced robot, who wears a trenchcoat, and has an accent that’s markedly close to being obnoxiously British. Anna Conda (no I’m not joking) is a woman donning an eye patch, John Sawyer appears to be a man with a metal jaw, and then there was my preference. You, as the player, can pick from three to start the game.

As such, companies hire professional bounty hunters to help out. The light setup for Huntdown is that gangs control much of the city, with law enforcement either bought out, or incapable of putting up much of a fight. It’s not ashamed of the fact that it feels like The Warriors, meets RoboCop, meets Bladerunner. The thing with Huntdown, is that it sticks it’s influences in the form of medals on its chest. You’re handed a cityscape that’s very reminiscent of Blade Runner, but instead of hovering vehicles or other such futuristic modes of transport, each level starts with your bounty hunter arriving in what appears to be a souped up DeLorean.īut then, your checkpoint system, a suspiciously unprofessional healthcare system, arrives in a flying ambulance-come-van that’s almost certainly not supported by official insurers. To put it plainly, there isn’t a shortage of alternate or dystopian settings to choose from when designing a game set in the future (or even past in some cases), but Huntdown settles for a charming little middle ground.
It’s also available on all other major platforms. Before I go further, I was playing on my PC, where Huntdown is currently exclusive to Epic Games Store. Huntdown is their most recent title, and I’m gonna take a punt that this game will appeal to many, many people.
They’ve published both Goat-Simulator, and the more recent Deep Rock Galactic, among others of course.
